13.0 Displaying deep sky objects

Click the check boxes to control which classes of deep sky objects are displayed (Star Clusters, Galaxies, Nebulae and Active sources).
Use the Show pop-up menus to display the different classes of deep sky objects as images, areas or icons. Active sources (such as radio sources and quasars) can only be displayed as icons. Note that if Image is selected, the object will only be displayed if it is brighter than the Limiting magnitude.

RedShift contains specific images based on photographs for nearly 100 important deep sky objects. As you zoom in on these objects, these images will appear. Other deep sky objects are represented by generic images, typical of the object type.

13.1 Filtering deep sky objects by magnitude
RedShift is pre-set to display deep sky objects with magnitudes between -2 and 8 (dimmer deep sky objects have higher magnitude values).

In the Deep sky filter dialog use the Magnitude slider to filter which deep sky objects are displayed (based on their magnitude). Note that the Magnitude slider lets you set both upper and lower limits on magnitude. Use the Labelled slider to filter which of the displayed deep sky objects are labelled.
